B51.00001. Ground State of Magic Angle Twisted Bilayer Graphene

Abstract

In magic angle twisted bilayer graphene (MATBG), interactions dominate over the kinetic energy, resulting in correlated insulating states and superconductivity whose origin remains a mystery. Here, using a combination of analytical arguments and numerical calculations we identify a family of candidate insulating ground states at charge neutrality and discuss how external perturbations such as the influence of the substrate or strain can alter the phase diagram.
